Last In Line - The Chance, Poughkeepsie, NY - May 4, 2019 - Setlist and HD Video

Saw Last In Line on Saturday, May 4, 2019 at The Chance in Poughkeepsie, NY.

Last In Line features Vivian Campbell and Vinny Appice of Dio's classic line-up along with bassist Phil Soussan who took over upon Jimmy Bain's passing. Andrew Freeman, a local to the area, is a powerhouse on vocals.

The band started out paying tribute to Ronnie James Dio by performing sets made up of classic Dio songs (just songs by the band Dio, unlike Dio Disciples who include Black Sabbath and Rainbow era RJD songs in their sets as well).  This soon led to the release of an album of original material, Heavy Crown, which first brought the band to the Chance in March of 2017 - and now they've returned supporting their 2nd album, "II"

I thought the band were fantastic in 2017 and I would say they were even better this time around.  I originally went to hear the classic DIO tracks performed by these original members; and even now with two albums of original material, they still dedicate nine of the 16 songs played this night to those classic tracks - but their original material is hard driving kick ass hard rock/metal which easily stands tall with the Dio classics.  Lesser bands would see constant beer and bathroom runs when the oft dreaded "we're gonna play you a new one" is said, but these tracks instead make you want to do a merch booth run at the end of the show to pick up the albums.

I didn't take any photos at this show and just one video of the band performing the Dio track from which they took their name.  See them when they come around.

Here's the video and the full set they played that night.

Black Knights Rising - The Chance, Poughkeepsie NY February 7, 2015

I had been looking forward to Black Knights Rising's set as part of the Extreme Guitar Tour since it was announced a couple of months ago.  It was originally billed with Mark Boals on vocals, so add in Craig Goldy on guitar and Vinny Appice on drums (along with Elliott Rubinson on Bass) and it pretty much looked like it would be a Dio Disciples show.

Dio Disciples has made The Chance a stop each year when they tour (hoping they come back later this year, I know they're doing M3 Fest in Maryland on May 1) and Goldy is a constant member and I've seen versions of the band with Boals and Appice.  I was disappointed when I heard Boals was no longer on the tour and would be replaced with John West, but hoped he would live up to the task.

Well on Saturday, February 7, at the tour's stop at The Chance in Poughkeepsie I found I need not have worried.  West was a great replacement for Boals and Rubinson was an excellent bassist.

The set was very similar to a Dio Disciples show with the added addition of some Deep Purple covers and some post-Dio era Rainbow.  The band came on a few minutes after 9pm and played for just over an hour.

Here's the setlist and some photos from the show.  Click on any of the photos to super size them.
